Domestic fault finding
If you have an electrical fault that has caused a breaker to trip out it is important to get an emergency electrician on site as soon as possible. If you smell any electrical burning or you are concerned about the electrical installation please switch off the main switch on your consumer unit.
Consumer unit faults
You may have fuses, breakers or RCD units in your consumer unit. If a breaker trips then it is usually an overload or short circuit fault, if the RCD unit trips then it may be an earth leakage fault or faulty RCD. Sometimes the main switches in consumer units burn out due to loose connections. Do not take the cover off your consumer unit. Call an emergency electrician who can diagnose the fault and take the necessary action.

How much does a call-out electrician cost?
A minimum charge of £100 applies for all call-outs in the Worcester area including the surrounding villages. Travel to your property and the first hour of emergency fault finding is included. Every additional hour will cost £35. Every fault is different and it may take a few hours to find and rectify the fault. We always endeavor to find the electrical fault within the first hour of the visit. If this is not possible then we will consult you to see how to go forward.
If a new RCD or MCB breaker is required to rectify the fault then a second visit may be required. Some of the older consumer units have RCD and MCB breakers that are no longer available or are not cost-effective to replace. It may be better to have a complete consumer unit change rather than spending a lot on the existing equipment.
If we find a fault on a circuit then some rewiring may be required. We will check the insulation resistance and isolate the fault. It may be possible to have a temporary supply to keep your socket outlets and lighting circuits live.
