Fogstar Lithium Battery Installation
New installations
If you have started planning your electrical installation why not get some advice before you buy a new lithium battery and inverter? There is a minefield of information on the internet and you must get the right information from a qualified electrician first.
Retrofit lithium batteries
Installing a new lithium battery is only the start, the new battery needs to be charged correctly, and your existing lead acid battery charger may not be the right choice. We only install Victron equipment with the Fogstar Drift 12V 628AH Lithium Battery.
Lithium battery fusing
We only use Class T fuses on all our Fogstar lithium battery installs. The Fogstar 628AH can produce a very high current during a short circuit. The battery management system will always try to disconnect if a short circuit is sensed. The Class T fuse and fuse holder we use will disconnect the supply when a very high interrupt current flows during a short circuit, protecting your electrical installation.
Why do I like Fogstar batteries?
10 year Fogstar warranty
When investing in a new lithium battery, the warranty must be as long as possible.
Technical help
Fogstar are always quick to respond when I have a technical question. I have found that some companies want to sell you a cheap lithium battery and never think about customer service after.
Value for money
You can search and find many different brands of lithium batteries and you will struggle to find better value for money. Some of the batteries from other battery companies don’t come with internal heating or Bluetooth.
Powerful performance
The battery management system in the Fogstar Drift 12V 628AH Lithium Battery will provide 250A of continuous current. This is ideal when you combine it with a 3000VA inverter.
Inbuilt heating
You can discharge the Fogstar Drift 628AH battery below 0 and you can also charge it below 0 because of the in-built heating system.
Industry experience
You only have to browse through the Fogstar website to see the story of how they have developed their business. They specialise in producing high-quality lithium batteries.
Recommended high power large capacity off-grid system
The Fogstar 628AH battery can supply 250A x 12V = 3000 watts. A Victron 3000VA inverter or multiplus are ideal for this battery if you are going to be off-grid and want to use higher-wattage appliances. I like the Victron MultiPlus-II Inverter/Charger 12V 3000VA 120A-32A. The mains 120A charger is ideal because you can go off-grid using your 628AH of stored energy in your battery and then recharge it quickly at a rate of 120A per hour. This means you can stay for one night on mains hook-up and completely recharge your 628AH lithium battery.
The inverter is rated at 3000VA which is about 2400W of usable power (it does depend on the type of load you connect). 2400W will allow you to use many of the small appliances you use at home including a 2200W hair dryer, 1600W induction hob, 1600W air fryer or a 1500W microwave. Obviously you will have to be careful because you can only use one appliance at a time.
Fogstar Drift 12V 628AH Lithium Battery + Victron 3000VA Inverter/charger + Victron XS 50A Battery to Battery Charger
This system will allow you to cook with electricity and use many of your favourite appliances. There is also the option to have oil-filled electric radiators in your van for silent heating through the night. Before you buy anything please get in touch as I have a range of options.

Planning your electrical system
If you are starting a new electrical build I can offer a design and planning service to help get the best results from your new electrical system.
The first stage of the design process will involve a discussion to work out what you would like to achieve. Do you need a full off-grid electrical system including solar panels and lithium-ion batteries? or are you planning to use campsites regularly and only need a mains hookup and battery-to-battery twelve-volt system? There will be a lot to discuss to get the best result for your use case.
I will explain the different available systems and the costs involved in supplying and installing all the equipment in your campervan. I always aim to produce an electrical design that can be added to later. You can start with a simple battery system and add solar later if you wish.
