Camper Van Electrics Kit
Everything you will need in a camper van electrics kit designed for you by a qualified electrician.
It can be daunting trying to design your own camper van electrics kit. I will help you design the perfect kit for your van. We will start with a FREE 30 minute video consultation to discuss your project, I will then design a kit that will power all of the 12 volt and 240 volt appliances in your camper van. I will send you a quote within 24 hours after our call.
After installing systems for my customers I have realised that the best components to use are supplied by Victron, Blue Sea and Fogstar. I only use the best products I can find for all the kits. Every van has a different configuration including different cable lengths and sizes. The main benefit of having a bespoke electrics kit is the ability to have every cable cut to the length you require.
If you need more information about my bespoke camper van electrics kit design service please get in touch today.
Why is it better to buy a bespoke camper van electrics kit rather than trying to source everything yourself?
- Free advice and consultation with a qualified electrician
- Less deliveries will save you time and money
- Save hours by not researching products online
- Tried and tested Victron configurations
- Cable current & voltage drop calculations
Sizing Lithium Batteries
New installations
One of the most important aspects of designing a kit is deciding on the battery capacity. The most popular battery type is a lithium battery. If you are planning to use an inverter to convert the 12v DC electric in the battery into 240V AC you will need the right capacity battery that will deliver the right current for your inverter.
Capacity
The capacity of the lithium battery is measured in ampere hours (AH). If you run an appliance that uses
1 amp for exactly 1 hour you will use 1 ampere/hour of your total capacity.
Current
Another thing to concider when you are choosing a lithium battery to power an inverter is how much current your battery can deliver to your inverter. A Fogstar Drift Eco 100AH battery can deliver a maximium of 100 amps. We will apply a safety factor of 20%.
80 Amps x 12 Volts = 960 Watts
Why do I use Fogstar Eco batteries in my kits?
6 year Fogstar warranty
When investing in a new lithium battery, the warranty must be as long as possible.
Technical help
Fogstar are always quick to respond when I have a technical question. I have found that some companies want to just sell a lithium battery and never think about customer service after. Fogstar always answer my questions and give me good advice.
Value for money
You can search and find many different brands of lithium batteries and you will struggle to find better value for money. The eco range of batteries do not have bluetooth inside the battery. I use a seperate Victron shunt with these batteries.
Powerful performance
The battery management system in the Fogstar Drift Eco 100Ah will provide 100A of continuous current. This is ideal when you combine it with a 1600Va inverter.
Industry experience
You only have to browse through the Fogstar website to see the story of how they have developed their business. They specialise in producing high-quality lithium batteries.
Recommended off-grid camper van electrics kit
The Fogstar 100AH battery can supply 100A x 12V = 1200 watts. A Victron Multiplus 1600Va inverter charger is ideal for this battery if you are going to be off-grid and want to use higher-wattage appliances. It is always possible to add a second Eco 100Ah battery to increase your time off grid. Another great choice of battery would be the Fogstar Drift Eco 314 AH Battery

Planning your electrical system
If you are starting a new electrical build I can offer a design and planning service to help get the best results from your new electrical system.
The first stage of the design process will involve a FREE 30 minute video call to work out what you would like to achieve with your new system. Do you need a full off-grid electrical system including solar panels and lithium-ion batteries? or are you planning to use campsites regularly and only need a mains hookup and battery-to-battery twelve-volt system?
I will explain the different available systems and the costs involved in supplying and installing all the equipment in your camper van. I always aim to produce an electrical design that can be added to later. You can start with a simple battery system and add solar later if you wish.
